January 2018 - Teachers' Winter School

Bookings are now open for the Teachers' Edition of the Lecce Italian Language Experience to be held from 1 January 2018 to 21 January 2018 - priced from $AUD6250.

The January 2018 Lecce Italian Language Experience is intended for Italian language teachers. However the program is essentially the same as that offered in May and September. It is an immersion program aimed at giving participants a language proficiency boost. It is not about teaching teachers how to teach although there will be opportunities to visit schools and observe Italian teachers in action.

The organised program covered by the price will include:
  • airfares and accommodation
  • 56 hours of classes
  • 3 cooking classes
  • 3 day trips
Additional extra-cost optional activities will also be offered depending on what’s on at the time. For example if there is an Opera on in Bari, the option of going to Bari on a day trip to go to the Opera will be offered. Because it is winter, the weather will influence what we are able to do.

To accommodate the needs of teachers:
  • The programs includes visits to schools to look at teaching in Italian schools and to observe Italian teachers in action.
  • The program has been compressed into three weeks (1 – 21 Jan). Teachers need to be back for the start of the school year which in Australia means the week before Australia Day - 26 January.
  • For complete immersion and to further boost their Italian, the accommodation is Homestay with a host family.
Non-teachers
There is no reason why someone who is not a teacher could not come along. For example you could opt out of the school visits if you did not wish to go although only Italian would be spoken on the trips and it might be interesting and fun to see what happens in schools, interact with Italian kids and their teachers, and to practice your spoken Italian.

Please do not be discouraged by the fact the group will be largely made up of teachers of Italian. In fact teachers of Italian are themselves very diverse in their Italian language proficiency. There will be different classes divided according to their ability levels. Being out of your comfort zone and pushing yourself is a great way to boost your Italian.

Non-teachers also have the option of an apartment instead of Homestay, particularly if you are coming with a friend, partner or spouse.
